The Amandla MEK Foundation is a registered non-profit organization in Kenya dedicated to enhancing the well-being of women and girls. Amandla, which means “Power” in Zulu, represents the organization’s commitment to empowering women. Founded in 2019, the foundation focuses on uplifting marginalized communities and eradicating poverty through initiatives that promote women’s economic empowerment.

Emma Mong’ute is the founder of the Amandla MEK Foundation. Founded in 2019, the organization seeks to address issues around gender equality, and empowerment for women and the youth. She has half a decade of progressive experience in advocacy for gender equality and championing for human rights. She is currently a Project Management Masters’ candidate, a further study from her Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree. She has represented Kenyan Human Rights Defenders at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Africa, in addition to coordinating National Campaigns to harness women’s voices in realizing their political agendas.
She is also a board member of two organizations, having worked with different organizations to support their interventions toward realizing social justice with a bias in gender equality. She has supported Amnesty International as an outreach coordinator among other organizations and Young Women Leaders Connect (YWLC) as the head of the governance department. Other than its founder, Amandla MEK comprises of a pool of diverse experts ranging from impeccable administrator, gender, environment, development, finance, monitoring and evaluation professionals. As such, we are well equipped to address emerging development needs and their dynamics with gender lenses.
We empower women through mentorship, psycho socio support and skill development to enable them productively occupy their spaces and voice up their issues in development spaces.
Our collective advocacy and awareness creation aims at inspiring gender responsive development interventions by influencing other stakeholders and decision makers to incorporate gender dynamics in their interventions.
Through built up collaborations we mainstream women and girls in development interventions.
